Stay Safe! Regulations for Carrying Power Banks and Electronic Devices on Lion Group Flights
JAKARTA, February 1, 2025 – Lion Group remains committed to ensuring safety and comfort during every flight. As part of this effort, we urge all passengers to understand and comply with regulations regarding the use and storage of power banks and electronic devices onboard. By adhering to these guidelines, every passenger contributes to a safe, orderly, and comfortable flight experience for all.
Why Are These Regulations Important?
Lithium batteries in power banks and electronic devices can pose risks if not handled properly. Hazards such as short circuits, overheating, or even fires may occur if power banks are improperly stored or used carelessly. Therefore, Lion Group has implemented strict regulations to ensure collective safety throughout the flight.
To maintain flight safety, the use of certain electronic devices is not permitted from the moment the aircraft doors are closed until they are reopened after landing. These devices may interfere with the aircraft’s communication systems and must remain switched off during the flight.
Regulations for Carrying Power Banks
To prioritize flight safety, all passengers must adhere to the following power bank regulations:
1. Power banks are only allowed in cabin baggage and must not be stored in checked baggage. They cannot be used during the flight.
2. Power banks with a capacity of up to 100 Wh (watt-hour) or 20,000 mAh are allowed without special approval.
3. Power banks exceeding 100 Wh (20,000 mAh) but not more than 160 Wh (32,000 mAh) are permitted under the following conditions:
- The power bank must be in good condition, undamaged, and have clearly visible power capacity information.
- It must not be connected to any electronic device while onboard.
- It must not be placed inside a bag and must remain under the owner’s supervision.
- Each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of two (2) units.
Regulations for Carrying Electronic Devices with Lithium Batteries
1. Personal electronic devices such as watches, calculators, cameras, mobile phones, laptops, and camcorders must be carried in cabin baggage.
2. Spare batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits, for example, by storing them in their original packaging or covering the battery terminals with insulation tape or protective plastic.
3. Permitted spare batteries include:
- Lithium metal or lithium alloy batteries, with lithium content not exceeding 2 grams.
- Lithium-ion batteries, with a power capacity not exceeding 100 Wh (20,000 mAh).
Tips for Passengers
To better prepare for your trip, consider the following tips:
- Do not store spare batteries in your bag or overhead compartment; they must remain under continuous supervision.
- Check the power capacity of your power bank before traveling to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Store spare batteries properly, such as in protective cases, to prevent short circuits.
- Avoid charging devices using a power bank during the flight to minimize overheating risks.
- Follow cabin crew instructions, especially in case of an emergency involving electronic devices.
