media statementUpdated 13 October 2026 | 20:00 Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT) Lion Air and Wings Air Flights to and from Sentani Airport, Jayapura, Papua, Affected by Haze
S E N T A N I, 13 October 2026. Lion Air and Wings Air provide information on the impact of haze on flights to and from Sentani Airport in Jayapura, Papua. The haze has reduced visibility around the airport, affecting flight operations.
Haze can reduce pilots’ visibility during landing and takeoff, making it more difficult to see the runway and its surroundings. Limited visibility is a key factor in determining whether landings and departures can be conducted safely. Flight operations must therefore be adjusted in accordance with weather conditions and applicable safety requirements.
Weather disruptions can also affect subsequent flight schedules. When an aircraft experiences a delay on an earlier flight, its arrival at the destination airport is also delayed, potentially causing prolonged delays to subsequent flights. Schedule adjustments are made with the safety of passengers and crew as the top priority.
Flights experiencing cancellations and prolonged delays include:
- Wings Air flight IW 1635 on the Jayapura–Wamena route, scheduled to depart from Jayapura at 09:00 local time, has been cancelled. Flight IW 1632 on the Wamena–Jayapura route, scheduled to arrive at 11:20 local time, is also affected.
- Lion Air flight JT 788 on the Manokwari–Jayapura route, scheduled to arrive in Jayapura at 09:50 local time, has been cancelled. Flight JT 789 on the Jayapura–Manokwari route, scheduled to depart at 10:50 local time, is also affected.
- Lion Air flight JT 984 on the Timika–Jayapura route is experiencing a prolonged delay beyond its scheduled arrival time of 08:10 local time. As a result, flight JT 985 on the Jayapura–Timika route, scheduled to depart at 09:00 local time, is also subject to a schedule adjustment.
Lion Air and Wings Air have informed passengers about the status of affected flights. Passengers are offered the options of a refund or rescheduling to another available flight, subject to applicable terms and conditions. These options allow passengers to adjust their travel plans according to their individual needs.
Lion Air and Wings Air understand that schedule changes may affect passengers’ activities and travel plans. Information and assistance are provided to help passengers understand the situation and the options available to them.
The safety of passengers and crew remains the top priority. Flight adjustments are made based on weather conditions and applicable safety requirements, allowing flights to operate once conditions permit.
