K U P A N G, 8 September 2026 — Wings Air has temporarily cancelled flights to and from Wunopito Airport, Lewoleba (LWE) and Gewayantana Airport, Larantuka (LKA) today, 8 September 2026. This measure follows an official notification from the aviation authorities regarding the temporary closure of Wunopito Airport, Lewoleba (LWE), due to the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Lewotolok.

According to NOTAM C1134/26 NOTAMR C1106/26, Wunopito Airport (LWE) has been declared closed from 07.01 WIB on 8 September 2026 until an estimated 06.00 WIB on 9 September 2026 due to the impact of volcanic ash from Mount Lewotolok.

The Wings Air flights affected today are:

• Flight IW1995 — Kupang to Lewoleba, scheduled to depart at 08.30 WITA.
• Flight IW1994 — Lewoleba to Kupang, scheduled to depart at 09.50 WITA.
• Flight IW1929 — Kupang to Larantuka, scheduled to depart at 09.30 WITA.
• Flight IW1928 — Larantuka to Kupang, scheduled to depart at 10.50 WITA.

Wings Air has informed affected passengers of the situation and provided the options of rescheduling their flights or receiving a ticket refund, in accordance with the applicable terms and conditions.

The temporary cancellations are a measure to prioritize flight safety and security. Wings Air decided to temporarily cancel the flights based on its assessment of airspace conditions along the flight routes and conditions around the airports affected by volcanic ash.

Volcanic ash differs from ordinary clouds. Its extremely fine particles can be carried by the wind into aircraft flight paths. When volcanic ash is present within operational airspace, it can reduce visibility, disrupt aircraft engine and system performance, and potentially damage aircraft components. Flights must therefore be suspended or adjusted when airspace or airport conditions do not meet the required safety standards.

Wings Air continues to monitor volcanic activity and the spread of volcanic ash while coordinating with AirNav Indonesia, airport operators, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), and other relevant parties.

Flights will resume once airport and airspace conditions have been declared safe for flight operations.
