It is important for passengers to understand that in compliance with the rules and maximum weight limits that have been set, passengers have contributed to maintaining safety and comfort during the flight and ensuring that the boarding and flight process runs smoothly.

J A K A R T A –February 24, 2023. Lion Air Group imposes provisions in arranging baggage for passengers at the discretion of each airline. In general, there are several things that every passenger should pay attention to.

Maximum weight of baggage: each airline has different rules about the maximum baggage limit that each passenger can carry.

In-flight checked baggage is a type of baggage stored in the aircraft cargo and is not accessible to passengers during air travel. Checked baggage is usually heavier and larger than cabin baggage and is labeled with specific codes (labeling) to facilitate the handling process.

Why is the maximum limit for carrying economy class baggage on board set at 20kg?

1. Each aircraft has a maximum weight limit. If the weight of the aircraft exceeds the set limit, it becomes unstable. The amount and weight of baggage allowed could affect the weight, carrying capacity and balance of the aircraft. If passengers carry more baggage than is allowed, the weight of the aircraft may exceed the limit so that the balance of the aircraft is disturbed.

2. The aircraft manufacturer performs careful calculations and tests in determining the maximum permissible weight for baggage carried by passengers. This calculation involves the factors of capacity and load power of the aircraft, the safety and comfort of passengers during the flight.

3. Assist in the precise and correct calculation of traffic and operating costs and follow the regulations set by local aviation authorities in determining the maximum weight limit for checked baggage.

4. The loading and unloading time of luggage runs smoothly and pays attention to the level of safety of employees (porters). A larger amount of baggage has the effect of extending the handling time (arrangement) to and from the aircraft.

5. Maintain on time performance. Passengers carrying a lot of baggage tend to take longer to check and drop off baggage at check-in.

Why is the maximum baggage limit to the aircraft cabin 7kg?

1. The aircraft manufacturer takes into account the capacity and size of the aircraft cabin in determining the maximum permissible weight. This calculation prioritizes the safety and comfort aspects of passengers during the flight.

2. The availability of cabin compartment storage has been measured by 7kg. Passengers are obliged to pay attention to weight and dimensions.

3. Simplify the boarding process and arrange and store baggage in the cabin. If passengers carry too much cabin baggage or the cabin baggage is too large, the flow into the cabin can be disrupted and take longer.

Baggage type: airlines restrict the type of baggage carried by passengers. Passengers are prohibited from registering or carrying dangerous goods on board, among others a. Explosives such as fireworks, firecrackers, unexploded bombs and others of the same kind; b. Strong magnetic materials; c. Toxic substances (including insecticides) and corrosive substances or oxidizing agents (including bleach); d. All kinds of cooking stoves; e. Radioactive substances f. Flammable materials, including most matches or lighter fuel; g. Pressurized gases such as gas-pumping gas, sports oxygen sprays, de-dusting sprays and others.

Special provisions: Airlines release special rules for fragile or high-priced baggage. Passengers urgently need to understand the dangerous baggage groups such as sharp objects, chemicals and the like that are prohibited from being carried on board the flight. Some special items (types) are brought into the cabin, including a. Valuables such as cash, financial documents, jewelry, cameras, mobile phones, portable electronic devices and other forms of valuables must be stored alone on closed overhead shelves or compartments or under the seats in front of the passenger seating position; b. Infant items such as diapers, milk bottles and food for consumption during the flight do not exceed 5 kg; d.Toiletries in the form of liquids such as shampoo, skin softeners (lotions), soaps, perfumes or other objects are arranged properly and safely. Make sure it is arranged in a special pouch-shaped container.

Baggage feesThe airline charges additional fees for baggage that exceeds the specified limit and for prospective passengers who purchase tickets excluding baggage capacity. In an effort to simplify passengers' flight plans, Lion Air Group offers the purchase of prepaid baggage quota (simultaneously at the time of ticket purchase or after ticket purchase a maximum of 30kg). For convenience, the check-in staff will weigh the baggage at the check-in counter to determine if it meets these requirements. If it exceeds 20kg, it pays an additional fee so that the baggage can be transported as checked baggage.
