Umrah Made Closer! Lion Air Officially Launches First Flight from Pekanbaru to Jeddah Starting July 14, 2025
P E K A N B A R U, July 11, 2025 — Lion Air has announced the launch of its Umrah flight service from Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport, Pekanbaru, Riau (PKU) to King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah (JED), Saudi Arabia. The inaugural flight is set to depart on July 14, 2025, and will operate once a week in the initial phase.
The flight is scheduled to depart from Pekanbaru at 11:45 AM (WIB) and arrive in Jeddah at 6:50 PM local time. On the return trip, Lion Air will depart from Jeddah at 7:50 PM local time, arriving back in Pekanbaru at 10:55 AM WIB the following day.
This route is served using Boeing 737-9 and Boeing 737-900ER aircraft—modern, narrow-body jets that are well-suited for medium to long-haul routes. Passengers will enjoy a spacious cabin, ergonomic seating, and warm, attentive service from the crew, all contributing to a comfortable pilgrimage experience to the Holy Land.
Each Umrah pilgrim is entitled to 25 kg of free checked baggage, 7 kg of cabin baggage, 5 liters of Zamzam water, provided upon return from Saudi Arabia
These amenities make it easier for pilgrims to bring personal items and essentials without concern about excess baggage fees.
The availability of a direct Pekanbaru–Jeddah route answers the growing demand from the people of Riau and surrounding regions to perform Umrah. In addition to saving time and energy, this service supports local economic growth and the development of religious tourism in central Sumatra.
Lion Air expresses its sincere gratitude to airport authorities, AirNav Indonesia, Immigration, Customs, Port Health Authority (KKP), and Umrah travel partners for their cooperation and synergy in enabling this inaugural journey for pilgrims.
Lion Air also reminds all pilgrims to observe the following guidelines:
- Carry passports, money, and important documents in cabin baggage
- Do not bring power banks with a capacity above 160 Wh, and refrain from using them during the flight
- Liquids in cabin baggage must not exceed 100 ml, and all luggage must be clearly labeled with identification
Umrah bookings should only be made through authorized Umrah travel agencies that have partnered with Lion Air to ensure a safe, smooth, and comfortable pilgrimage experience from departure to return.
