Umrah Flights from Pekanbaru Officially Launched, Lion Air Offers a Comfortable Journey to the Holy Land
P E K A N B A R U, July 13, 2025 — Lion Air continues to provide convenience for Muslims in Indonesia, especially those in Riau and surrounding areas. Starting July 14, 2025, Lion Air officially operates Umrah flights from Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport, Pekanbaru (PKU) to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (JED).
This service is scheduled once a week, departing every Monday at 11:45 AM local time (WIB) and arriving in Jeddah at 6:50 PM local time. The return flight departs from Jeddah at 7:50 PM local time and lands in Pekanbaru at 10:55 AM WIB the following day.
The route inauguration was officiated by the Governor of Riau, Abdul Wahid, along with the General Manager of Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport, Radityo Ari Purwoko, representatives from the Indonesian Air Force Roesmin Nurjadin Base, Lion Air’s Director of Production Capt. Rachmat Diansyah Putra, Lion Group Management, and full support from all airport stakeholders, including AirNav Indonesia, Pertamina Aviation, Immigration, Customs, Port Health Office, and others.
Lion Air extends its gratitude for the synergy and collaboration with its Umrah travel agency partners such as KCI, Abiha, Tanim, and Abbed, who have played a key role in making these flights possible and supporting the pilgrims throughout their journey.
The route is operated using the Boeing 737-9 and Boeing 737-900ER aircraft with a capacity of 215 seats. Although classified as medium-body aircraft, both are designed for medium to long-haul comfort and have undergone comprehensive maintenance to ensure safety and comfort throughout the flight.
Please note that the Umrah journey includes a technical stop in Trivandrum, India for refueling. During this stop, passengers remain onboard and are not required to switch terminals or undergo additional checks.
This concept adds value by optimizing cost and travel time while maintaining comfort for the pilgrims. The short refueling stop keeps the journey efficient, safe, and non-exhausting.
Each pilgrim is entitled to 25 kg of checked baggage, 7 kg of cabin baggage, 5 liters of Zamzam water (provided upon return from Saudi Arabia)
These allowances are sufficient for personal items, clothing, and souvenirs without the risk of excess baggage.
For safety and comfort, Lion Air reminds all pilgrims to:
- Keep passports and valuables in carry-on bags
- Carry power banks only in the cabin (maximum capacity of 160 Wh), and not use them during the flight
- Avoid bringing liquids over 100 ml, sharp objects, or hazardous items in the cabin
- Label all luggage with name and contact information for easier identification
Lion Air strongly advises that all bookings be made through official Umrah travel agencies that are in partnership with the airline. This ensures transparency, safety, and convenience throughout the entire pilgrimage process.
Lion Air hopes that the people of Riau and surrounding regions will find it easier to perform Umrah without needing to travel from major cities. This is more than just a flight—it is Lion Air’s commitment to accompanying the faithful on their journey to the Holy Land.
