media statementUpdated 15 October 2026 | 17:00 Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT)  Adjustments to Lion Air and Wings Air Flights to/from Sentani Airport, Jayapura, Due to Haze

Oct 15, 2026, 16:39 PM by Lion Air Public Relations

J A Y A P U R A, 15 October 2026. Lion Air and Wings Air provide an update on operational changes affecting several flights to and from Sentani Airport, Jayapura, due to haze that has reduced visibility around the airport.

Haze limits visibility, making it more difficult for pilots to see the runway and its surroundings, particularly during landing and takeoff. Flights may therefore only operate when weather conditions and visibility meet flight safety requirements.

Amid changing weather conditions, some flights can continue to operate when visibility meets safety requirements. However, other Lion Air and Wings Air flights may experience prolonged delays or cancellations if haze conditions at the time of departure do not allow aircraft to operate safely.

Delays can also affect subsequent flights. If an aircraft remains delayed by haze on its previous flight, its next scheduled flight will also be affected. This may result in longer waiting times, depending on how weather conditions develop and when safety requirements can be met.

List of Affected Flights on 15 October 2026

1. Wings Air — Cancelled

  • IW 1635, Jayapura–Wamena, scheduled departure at 09:00 WIT.
  • IW 1632, Wamena–Jayapura, scheduled arrival at 11:20 WIT.

  • JT 788, Manokwari–Jayapura, scheduled arrival at 09:50 WIT.
  • JT 789, Jayapura–Manokwari, scheduled departure at 10:50 WIT.

Lion Air and Wings Air are informing affected passengers and monitoring developments in weather conditions and airport operations. Travel assistance is being provided according to each flight’s circumstances and the applicable terms and conditions.

The safety of passengers and crew remains the highest priority. Decisions to delay or cancel flights are made when conditions on the ground do not meet safety requirements, rather than solely on the basis of planned schedules.
