Media StatementUpdated at 14:00 Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT)Operational Adjustments to Lion Air and Wings Air Flights to and from Sentani Airport, Jayapura

Oct 10, 2026, 14:01 PM by Lion Air Public Relations

S E N T A N I, 10 October 2026. Lion Air and Wings Air provide an update on flight operations to and from Sentani Airport, Jayapura (DJJ), which have been affected by adverse weather conditions involving smoke that reduces visibility around the airport.

These conditions may impair pilots’ ability to see the runway and the surrounding airport environment, particularly during landing approaches and takeoffs. If visibility does not meet the required minimum, flights cannot operate in the interest of safety.

As of 14:00 WIT on 10 October 2026, Lion Air flights on the Jayapura–Manokwari–Jayapura route and Wings Air flights on the Jayapura–Nabire–Jayapura route remain on hold pending an improvement in weather conditions sufficient to meet flight safety requirements. Lion Air and Wings Air continue to coordinate with the relevant authorities and monitor conditions on the ground to determine subsequent operational measures.

Lion Air: Jayapura–Manokwari–Jayapura

  • JT 789 Jayapura (DJJ) → Manokwari (MKW), scheduled departure at 10:50 WIT.
  • JT 788 Manokwari (MKW) → Jayapura (DJJ), scheduled arrival at 09:50 WIT.

Wings Air: Jayapura–Nabire–Jayapura

  • IW 1625 Jayapura (DJJ) → Nabire (NBX), scheduled departure at 09:30 WIT.
  • IW 1624 Nabire (NBX) → Jayapura (DJJ), scheduled arrival at 08:30 WIT.

In addition, Wings Air flights on the Jayapura–Wamena–Jayapura route have been cancelled due to these conditions. These delays and cancellations result from weather factors beyond the airlines’ control (force majeure). Operational decisions prioritize the safety of passengers, crew members, and all parties involved in flight operations.

Wings Air: Jayapura–Wamena–Jayapura

  • IW 1635 Jayapura (DJJ) → Wamena (WMX), scheduled departure at 09:00 WIT.
  • IW 1632 Wamena (WMX) → Jayapura (DJJ), scheduled arrival at 11:20 WIT.
Lion Air and Wings Air have informed affected passengers and offered the options of a refund, meaning reimbursement of the ticket cost, or rescheduling, meaning a change to another available flight, in accordance with applicable terms and conditions. Lion Air and Wings Air understand that changes to flight schedules may affect passengers’ travel plans. The airlines continue to coordinate with the relevant parties and monitor weather conditions, ensuring that safety remains the primary consideration in every operational decision.
