KUPANG, 1 September 2026 — Wings Air has temporarily cancelled four flights scheduled for today, 1 September 2026, as a precautionary measure to prioritise flight safety and security following the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Lewotolok in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

The affected flights are:

• Flight IW1929 from Kupang to Larantuka, scheduled to depart at 9.25 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA)
• Flight IW1928 from Larantuka to Kupang, scheduled to depart at 10.50 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA)
• Flight IW1995 from Kupang to Lewoleba, scheduled to depart at 8.30 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA)
• Flight IW1994 from Lewoleba to Kupang, scheduled to depart at 9.50 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA)

The cancellations were made after considering the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Lewotolok, which may affect the airspace and surrounding areas of Gewayantana Airport in Larantuka (LKA) and Wunopitu Airport in Lewoleba (LWE).

Volcanic ash requires particular caution because it can be carried by the wind and spread into flight paths. Its extremely fine particles can reduce visibility, disrupt aircraft systems and instruments, and enter aircraft engines, potentially affecting engine performance. Such conditions may pose a risk to flight safety.

Wings Air has informed all affected passengers. Passengers may choose either a ticket refund or a flight reschedule, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.

Wings Air continues to coordinate with the relevant authorities and monitor developments related to the eruption. Flight services will resume once the airspace and airport conditions have been declared safe and all flight safety requirements have been met.
