A Glimpse of Lion Air’s Inaugural Umrah Flight 1447H from Palembang: Closer to the Holy Land
P A L E M B A N G, July 10, 2025 — An emotional and spiritually uplifting atmosphere accompanied the inaugural Umrah flight of 1447 Hijri by Lion Air, departing from Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport, Palembang to King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, officially launched on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
This milestone marks a significant step in improving access for communities in South Sumatra and surrounding areas to perform their pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The non-stop flight is part of Lion Air’s commitment to providing accessible, efficient, and comfortable Umrah services, particularly for the southern Sumatra region.
The Umrah flights from Palembang are operated using the latest generation wide-body aircraft — Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A330-900NEO, accommodating up to 433 economy class passengers. These aircraft feature spacious cabins, ergonomic seating, and in-flight entertainment systems to enhance comfort on long-haul journeys.
Each pilgrim is entitled to:
- 30 kg free checked baggage
- 7 kg cabin baggage
- 5 liters of Zamzam water, distributed upon return from Jeddah
The direct Palembang – Jeddah route offers added value by eliminating the need for overland travel to other cities. This access also extends service reach to nearby regions such as Banyuasin, OKI (Ogan Komering Ilir), Prabumulih, Lubuklinggau, and even Jambi and Bengkulu.
Lion Air expresses its gratitude to all stakeholders—including local governments, airport authorities, aviation regulators, and partner Umrah travel agencies—for their support in the successful operation and send-off of this inaugural Umrah flight.
To ensure a safe and smooth journey, pilgrims are reminded to follow these important guidelines:
- Keep essential items (passport, documents, money) in your cabin bag
- Power banks (max. 32,000 mAh) are only allowed in cabin luggage and must not be used during the flight
- Do not carry liquids over 100 ml, sharp objects, or hazardous materials in cabin bags
- Label all luggage with your name and contact number for easy identification
Lion Air also strongly recommends booking Umrah trips only through official travel agencies that have partnered with Lion Air, to prevent fraud and ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience from departure to return.
