Lion Air Adjusts Checked Baggage Policy Starting July 17, 2025Offering More Practical Travel Options to Suit Customer Needs
JAKARTA, June 26, 2025 – Lion Air remains committed to providing safe, comfortable, and affordable air travel for all its customers. Beginning July 17, 2025, customers will follow new checked baggage allowance (Free Baggage Ticket Allowance/FBA) policies, designed to be more practical and aligned with today’s travel trends.
Starting on that date, passengers will receive 10 kg of free checked baggage on all Lion Air domestic and international flights.
What’s Changing?
- Customers who purchase or reschedule tickets before July 17, 2025, will still receive the previous FBA (15 kg or 20 kg, depending on the route).
- Customers who purchase or reschedule tickets on or after July 17, 2025, will receive 10 kg FBA, according to the new policy.
Why the Adjustment?
1. Adapting to Modern Travel Needs Most passengers now travel for short periods or with minimal luggage. This adjustment speeds up check-in and baggage claim processes, making the journey more efficient without compromising essential service quality.
2. Still Offering FBA as an LCC According to the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation Regulation No. 30 of 2021 regarding Minimum Service Standards for Air Transport Passengers, including special rules for checked baggage, Low-Cost Carriers (LCC) like Lion Air have the flexibility to set baggage policies—even offering 0 kg if needed. Lion Air values customer convenience, so although it is allowed to provide 0 kg based on PM 30/2021, the airline continues to offer 10 kg of free checked baggage and 7 kg of cabin baggage, ensuring a comfortable travel experience.
3. Flexible Prepaid Baggage Options For customers carrying more, Prepaid Baggage options are available—allowing additional baggage purchase at more affordable rates before departure. This service is easily accessible anytime through www.lionair.co.id and the BookCabin app.
4. Support for UMKM and Cargo Services This policy also encourages passengers carrying large amounts of goods to use Lion’s cargo services, helping streamline product distribution from UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) across regions.
