Strategic Benefits of the Yogyakarta – Tarakan Route include, first, easier access for tourists. Tarakan, as the gateway to North Kalimantan, holds remarkable natural and cultural tourism potential—such as mangrove ecotourism, turtle habitats at Amal Beach, and access to destinations like Nunukan and Krayan.Second, it supports business and economic activities. Tarakan is an important economic growth center in North Kalimantan, especially in the sectors of mining, fisheries, services, and cross-border trade. This route creates new opportunities for entrepreneurs, UMKM, and investors alike.
Third, it serves as a solution for family travel and social needs. This connectivity addresses the travel demands of the community for family visits, education, and social purposes—such as visiting relatives, students from Kalimantan studying in Yogyakarta, and vice versa. Fourth, it supports national connectivity and regional equity, especially between the island of Java and northern Kalimantan, which previously required a combination of connecting flights or indirect routes.
