TERNATE, May 13, 2025 — Lion Air once again proves its commitment as an airline that is responsive, present, and attentive to the needs of the people. This time, Lion Air is playing a role in supporting the smooth execution of the 1446 Hijri / 2025 AD Hajj pilgrimage, particularly for pilgrims from North Maluku Province.

Through the Hajj Feeder Service scheme, Lion Air successfully operated 6 charter flights from Sultan Babullah Airport Ternate (TTE) to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport Makassar in Maros, South Sulawesi (UPG). A total of 1,134 hajj pilgrims were flown using modern-generation Boeing 737-800NG aircraft with a capacity of 189 economy class seats.

Under the Hajj Feeder system, the pilgrims first stay overnight at the hajj embarkation dormitory in Makassar before continuing on a direct flight to Saudi Arabia. This arrangement is designed to streamline the departure process and ensure that the pilgrims have adequate rest, receive organized services, and experience a more comfortable pilgrimage journey starting from their home region.

Why is Lion Air involved in this hajj operation? Because Lion Air understands that the hajj pilgrimage is a significant moment for Muslims, and one of the best forms of service is facilitating seamless air travel between regions and the main embarkation points. Through this role, Lion Air helps pilgrims from eastern Indonesia reach the Holy Land more easily and safely.

Lion Air extends its gratitude for the trust and collaboration from the North Maluku Provincial and Local Governments, as well as other supporting parties such as airport authorities, air traffic controllers (AirNav Indonesia), and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of this year’s hajj pilgrimage.

Lion Air remains committed to providing safe, comfortable, and on-time hajj flights. All cabin and ground crew have received special training to deliver the best service, especially for the elderly and persons with disabilities. This support is part of Lion Air’s ongoing efforts to provide affordable and inclusive air transportation services for all Indonesians.
