Lion Air to Serve 13 Hajj Flight Groups from Banjarmasin Embarkation Starting May 5, 2025
A Total of 5,454 Pilgrims from South and Central Kalimantan Ready to Depart for the Holy Land
BANJARBARU, May 2, 2025 — Lion Air has announced its operational readiness to support the smooth implementation of the 1446 H / 2025 AD Hajj pilgrimage from Banjarmasin Embarkation Point (BDJ). The first flight is scheduled for May 5, 2025, heading to Madinah (MED), Saudi Arabia.
According to data from the Banjarmasin Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH), 13 flight groups (kloter) will be served by Lion Air, transporting a total of 5,454 pilgrims from South Kalimantan (3,843 people) and Central Kalimantan (1,611 people), including accompanying officers.
To ensure smooth operations, Lion Air has prepared three (3) wide-body Airbus 330 aircraft to serve pilgrims from this embarkation point — even though technically, the operation could be handled by just one aircraft. This preparedness reflects Lion Air’s commitment to on-time performance and adherence to aviation safety standards.
During flight operations, Lion Air will follow established Hajj service procedures, with special attention to the comfort and needs of elderly and disabled pilgrims. This aligns with the 2025 Hajj service theme, which emphasizes inclusivity, hospitality, and respect for all pilgrims.
Lion Air extends its best wishes to all pilgrims for a smooth Hajj journey. May the journey to the Holy Land go safely, and may all pilgrims be granted health and strength in fulfilling the fifth pillar of Islam.
Lion Air also expresses its deep appreciation for the trust given by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as for the support from Angkasa Pura I, AirNav Indonesia, Airport Authorities, and all other stakeholders. Lion Air’s presence as a Hajj flight operator is expected to positively contribute to providing safe, comfortable, and affordable air transport services.
