Offer easy accessibility and new options for flying to South Papua with interconnected flights.

T A N A H M E R A H – December 18, 2022. Boven Digoel Regency, a capital city in Tanah Merah, has superior sectors that are a priority to develop. Including the processed industry sector based on agriculture, plantations, forestry, marine, MSMEs (creative industries), and tourism (cultural, historical, spiritual, artistic, and natural tourism). The development of one of the districts in South Papua has been based on the results of potential analysis and encouraged increased investment in the agribusiness, agro-fishery, and agro-industrial sectors.

To support the development of Boven Digoel Regency as a new economic growth center in eastern Indonesia, distributing logistics more effectively and precisely, accommodating Indonesian aviation market trends, and accelerating the economic recovery phase through air transportation, Wings Air (IW flight code) member of Lion Air Group, opened a new route for domestic scheduled passenger services (regular flights). This flight connects Sentani Airport in Jayapura,  Papua (DJJ) destination Tanah Merah Airport, Boven Digoel, South Papua (TMH). The inaugural flight has scheduled for December 19, 2022.

In the early stages, Wings Air, on December 19 – 24, 2022, serves the flight frequency every day or seven times a week. That has the effort to expedite the need for year-end holidays according to market demand. The following service, from December 26, 2022, until further notice, Wings Air operates on a schedule every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (3 times a week).

The frequency of flying from Wings Air offers the convenience of connecting flights, including the destinations of Jayapura, Wamena, Dekai, Biak, Timika, Nabire, Manokwari, Sorong, Babo, Kaimana, Fak-Fak, Ternate, Manado, Ambon, Saumlaki, Tual, Namlea, Makassar, Palu, Gorontalo, Kendari, Surabaya, Bali, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Jakarta, Bandung, Batam, Pontianak, and other cities.

Tanah Merah, Boven Digoel is also popularly involved in the Bangga Berwisata di Indonesia (BBWI) campaign. The availability of connected flights will provide more value for tourists, business people, and workers because it can shorten the time and shorten the distance.

Tanah Merah Destination is the 143rd destination city of Wings Air nationally. For the coverage of Papua Island, it becomes:

• The 3rd destination city in South Papua Province after Ewer, Asmat Regency (EWE), and Merauke (MKQ).
• The 13th destination city in Papua Island (overall), after Dekai (DEX), Kaimana (KNG), Nabire (NBX), Timika (TIM), Wamena (WMX), Jayapura (DJJ), Sorong (SOQ), Manokwari (MKW), Fak-Fak (FKQ), Babo Bintuni (BXB), Ewer Asmat (EWE) and Merauke (MKQ).

Thus, accessibility is increasingly open and affordable as an "air bridge" in eastern Indonesia. In the future, the expansion of the flight network has carried out in stages.
