Operational Explanation and Handling of Lion Air Flight JT-797 Jayapura to Makassar Route. “The Process of Labor in the Cabin of an Aircraft Is Carried Out According to Procedure. Mother and Son in Good Health and Happy Condition”

A M B O N – November 18th 2020. Lion Air (flight code JT) member of Lion Air Group submits official information regarding flight service number JT-797 route from Sentai International Airport, Jayapura, Papua (DJJ) to Makassar via Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Maros, South Sulawesi (UPG), that the operational implementation and handling of one passenger named Anastasia Geavani (having a merauke – Jayapura – Makassar – Jakarta travel ticket) who gave birth on board the aircraft on Tuesday (17/ 11) is in accordance with standard procedure (SOP).

Lion Air has properly prepared flight JT-797, Boeing 737-900ER registration PK-JT before departure has undergone pre-departure checks and is declared airworthy for flight. The crew in charge is in good health, and all passengers have undergone checks as per the applicable conditions.

Lion Air flight JT-797 took off from Sentani International Airport with a scheduled departure time of 13:35 WIT (East Indonesia Time, GMT+09).

Approximately 50 minutes from the scheduled flight, the passenger's companion asked the cabin crew for help complaining of stomach pains and asking for warm water.

The Senior Flight Attendant (SFA) named Novitalia and the rest of the cabin crew approached directly to determine the actual condition of the passenger. After receiving detailed information, the SFA immediately made an announcement on whether in flight there is a doctor's profession. One passenger on behalf of Marthina Setiawati Randabunga claimed to be a doctor by presenting his official identity as well as other supporting documents.

Good coordination and cooperation between cabin crew and doctors, the passenger's maternity process including the treatment is running normally, in the back seat. Mother and son are in good health and safe.

In such situations to provide the best service, pilot Capt. Eirstanto Prabowo with co-pilot Tanto Adi Prasetyo after coordinating with doctors and cabin crew decided to divert to the nearest airport, Pattimura International Airport, Ambon, Maluku (AMQ). The pilot informs air traffic officers and ground officers, on board there are passengers who need further medical treatment.

The aircraft landed at 15.49 WIT. Once the aircraft is parked in place and in perfect position, Lion Air ground handling officers with the medical team immediately handle the passengers in question, to be taken to the nearest hospital.

Lion Air flight JT-797 is back in the air from Pattimura International Airport to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport at 16.30 WIT. The aircraft arrived at 17:15 WITA (Central Indonesia Time, GMT+ 08).

Lion Air would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to the cabin crew on duty, doctors on the flight and ground handling in Ambon who handled the operation and handling of one passenger giving birth to flight JT-797.

Lion Air cabin crew (flight attendants and flight attendants) are equipped with skills through education and training in carrying out their profession to keep passengers safe and ensure all activities run according to SOP

Each cabin crew is skillfully trained to handle various emergencies, such as smoke, handling dangerous goods, bomb threats, unexpected medical incidents (passengers get sick or give birth).

Pre-cabin crew are authorized to ensure passengers are allowed to fly or not through behavioral analysis (observation) up to the body language of passengers deemed to be able to (potentially) harm or interfere with flight comfort.

Air Travel Appeals

To each passenger that based on flight service procedures, to always provide detailed, clear, the actual circumstances to the ground service officer during the self-reporting process at the check-in counter. If pregnant, severely, ill is contagious or non-contagious or has special conditions that can harm themselves and interfere with the comfort of other passengers while traveling in the air.

Lion Air Group regulations apply provisions for pregnant women over 28 weeks of pregnancy must include a medical certificate to take part in the flight. At 36 weeks gestation is no longer allowed to fly by airplane

Health conditions generally do not require a medical license. However, for some circumstances, each passenger has a medical license prior to the flight.
