Lion Air Group Is First To Use Boeing 737 Max 8 In The World

Kuala Lumpur, May 22, 2017 - A subsidiary of Lion Air Group CAPA 2016 Asia Pacific Regional Airline of the Year, Malindo Air has officially acquired the world's first Boeing 737 MAX 8 to strengthen its fleet.
 
The Boeing 737 MAX welcome ceremony was attended by Dato 'Sri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman as the Director General of Air Transportation Malaysia who also took the inaugural flight with Boeing 737 MAX 8 to Singapore.
 
Founder of Lion Air Group Rusdi Kirana also attended the ceremony along with Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific & India Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Dr. Dinesh Keskar, and CEO of Malindo Air, Chandran Rama Muthy.
 
Chandran Rama Muthy said "This is a very happy moment, we are very proud to be the airline that operates the world's first Boeing 737 MAX 8. While the previous Boeing 737 NG aircraft has served Malindo Air very well in its growth, and we believe that the Boeing 737 MAX will be the core aircraft for our fleets. This new type of aircraft will take Malindo Air to its next destination and have a major role in serving low cost flight to our customers ".
 
Chandran added, Malindo Air will be renamed to Batik Malaysia in the second quarter of 2017, therefore the first Boeing 737 MAX 8 in the world uses Malaysian Batik livery.
 
"Today marks another milestone for Malaysian flights. We are proud to be the first to operate one of the single-aisle aircraft with the most advanced technology in the world. With a more efficient fuel would be better to the environment and society. We also expect the growth in the number of aircraft customers to be higher with the refinement of the flying experience provided", said Dato 'Sri Azharuddin, Director General of Air Transportation Malaysia.

The inaugural flight of Malindo Air using the Boeing 737 MAX, serves route Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, via Changi International Airport which has landed at 11.30am this morning which is continued with the arrival ceremony.
Boeing 737 MAX Malindo Air has a mono-class configuration with a capacity of 180 seats. Malindo Air will receive 4 units of Boeing 737 MAX this year and will be used mostly for charter flights.
